Wookiee the Chew

Just before Christmas, I was asked to make this doll. Isn't he adorable?

The person who requested him, sent me an image of someone wearing a t-shirt with this guy on it. After doing a little research, I found the artist who created the drawing on the t-shirt, James Hance.

James' website is full of adorableness so do check it out! Here is the link to the Wookiee the Chew page where his illustrations of Wookiee the Chew can be found. He's written a little book, Wookiee the Chew: House at Chew Corner, a parody of Chewbacca and Winnie the Pooh. You can purchase it on his website. I haven't read it yet, but I'm certainly looking forward to it! I looks adorable.

This was an awesome project. I have never made a jointed bear before so I learned a lot. This is the book I ordered from Amazon to assist me with my jointed bear making adventure.

The Art of Making Teddy Bears by Jennifer Laing is a good book for anyone who is interested in learning how to make their own teddy bear. It includes three patterns for slightly different bears. It also has lots of pictures of teddy bears to draw inspiration from and discusses the history of teddy bear making, which I knew absolutely nothing about. For example, I didn't know that the first teddy bear was named after Teddy Roosevelt. But after asking around a bit I've come to realize that I may be the only person who wasn't aware of that.

  1. Your work is amazing! I want him so much, more than I can even express I want him. I was interested in the Giant Sasquatch but was hoping to have a more carry friendly bear for the little one me and my husband are expecting, can I custom order him smaller? I looked at the regular Sasquatch, but he didnt' look the same. We are looking to decorate our nursery in James Hance Star Wars :)

    1. Hi, Kate!
Thank you for your request. I have made these to order- Sasquatches (without the bag and strap) for a long time. I am presently taking a break from it as my life has become very busy. Please e-mail me at mrsdeal(at)gmail(dot)com if you are interested and you have a very flexible deadline. I am presently taking names for a waiting list. I may be able to make some this summer. Please let me know!
      Thanks again,
