The Beach

Ah, the beach. There's just something amazing about the beach. You go there feeling your regular self and you leave feeling a little lighter. It's as though the waves come to shore to carry your worries away.

It is no wonder to me that flowers are a constant theme in photography and painting. I have so many photos of flowers and yet, I can't stop taking new images of flowers. Everywhere we go, I come home with pictures of flowers. Here are some wild flowers that were growing at the beach.

May you have a happy and relaxing summer! I hope that you are enjoying some sunshine today!

Baby Raccoon

This sweet little fur ball found himself stranded at the bottom of the tree where he lives with his mom and his brother or sister. He made some of the cutest sounds I've ever heard and it was terribly heartbreaking to watch him struggle to find his mommy and get back up the tree.

At one point he climbed into the culvert pipe under a little bridge we have in the back yard and had a little drink.

We kept an eye on him for the day and night that he spent at the base of the tree. He appeared to have a problem with his eye and we were a little concerned that perhaps he wouldn't be welcomed back into the nest. He tried so hard to climb back up the tree but this particular tree has lost most of it's bark at the bottom and he just couldn't make it up.

Here he was looking at me and it seemed like he was pleading with me to help him out! His sibling called to him much of the time he was on the ground. The following morning there was no trace of the sweet fellow and we haven't heard a peep from him or his family since. We hope that he made it back to his nest before our resident fox got his sights on him!

A Bow Tie For Yeti

Thanks to my friend Miranda's suggestion, I went searching through my fabric stash and discovered that I had the perfect material for Yeti's bow tie. She was right, it just had to be a bow tie. The bright red corduroy I used to make his smashing tie, I found a year ago at the thrift store. Now he is complete and all of the cousins are finally listed in the shop!

We had such a lovely weekend here. The weather couldn't be more perfect; a pale blue sky with a big bright sun and cool gentle breezes. We spent as much time as possible outside and Ontario strawberries are here! They are the sweetest little morsels! Oh to see the children running wild and free with their bodies covered in dirt and their faces covered with sticky strawberry juice!

Yeti and a Visit From a Deer

Yeti is from the Himalayan region of Nepal. He is a highly intelligent and deeply spiritual fellow. Thanks to the internet he has the opportunity to share his wisdom with the world. He is a physics genius and is presently working on developing a course for The Great Courses. Yeti has been enjoying his time with us here in the forest in Ontario, Canada. He takes a long hike each day after his morning meditation.

Here is a photo of the cousins taken by Sasquatch...

They are all agreed that the reunion has been a grand success! It is not often they get to see each other.

I've hesitated on listing the cousins in the shop this week because Yeti is not quite done. He's missing something and I'm not sure exactly what it is yet. I think it may be a jacket or a vest. I'm hoping to work on it this afternoon. I want to list the cousins in the shop together so whenever I finally get Yeti all figured out and finish their studio shots, I'll list them in the shop but I'm not sure exactly when that's going to be; today, tomorrow, a few days from now? Thanks so much to those of you who have expressed such kind words about the cousins.

Look! I finally got a great photo of one of our deer friends this week! Right from our living room window! So beautiful!

Big Foot

You may be familiar with Big Foot from the Patterson- Gimlin film from 1967. He was forced to leave the Northern California area where he was first spotted in the 60's due to the high volume of people coming to the area to get a glimpse of him. He traveled down the coast of California to Big Sur where he was taken in and befriended by the late author Henry Miller. Big Foot's friendship with Henry Miller deeply inspired him to live a simple life and take up water colour painting. He has been living his bliss in Big Sur ever since.

It has been an absolute pleasure to have him for a house guest. He is very polite and enjoys pitching in when he can. Since his visit to Canada to see his cousins, he's made many new friends. Some of them, a little unexpected...

Big Foot will be available for sale in the shop this week.
